My Beginners’ Sewing Course is here! For more info: or to jump right in, join my free online sewing community: skool.com/catherinessewingroom/about and click on Classroom.
Are you making any of these 10 common beginner sewing mistakes? Today, I’ll walk you through the most frequent sewing errors I see from new sewists. Stick around to the very end, where I sew a “bad” example, making all of these mistakes in one go — and then show you how to clean it up and do it better. From poorly matched thread to wonky hems and giant backtacks, I’ll show you what to avoid and, most importantly, how to fix it. It’s a fun and helpful way to see just how much impact these little details can make!
Whether you’re just learning to sew or you want to brush up on your technique, this video is packed with sewing tips for beginners, sewing do’s and don’ts, and practical advice to help you sew like a pro.

  1. This was a GREAT video!!! Not saying, don’t do this, but actually showing the difference!!

  2. My main beginner mistake is the needle makes a perfect line but somewhere in the middle skips 3 stitches for some reason or suddenly breaks or loses the bobbin thread below, and I don’t know why that happens. Is it me, is it the machine, how to fix it..

  3. Laughed so much when you sew that pocket. That was me! Learned so much watching this! Thank you!

  4. Thank you!!
